AT&T Confirms Dell Smartphone, Four Additional Android Handsets In The Works

Things are definitely heating up for the Android platform this week. After Google announced the Nexus One, AT&T announced plans to launch five new Android devices in the first half of this year, including a smartphone from Dell. Other devices will come from Motorola and HTC.

AT&T didn't release a lot of details on the new phones, but here's what the company says it has in the works:
  • A Motorola smartphone, powered by MOTOBLUR, with a unique form factor and an AT&T exclusive
  • Dell’s first smartphone, based on the Android platform and an AT&T exclusive
  • A HTC smartphone, based on the Android platform, and an AT&T exclusive

In a separate announcement, Dell announced the Mini 3 but failed to give us a lot more details about its first U.S. smartphone that's headed to AT&T. We know the Mini 3 will run Android. Beyond that, we're assuming the Mini 3 will have specs that are comparable to Dell's overseas models, which have a 3.5-inch 640x360 display, Bluetooth, 3 megapixel auto-focus camera with flash, microSD, and GPS. Dell said additional details regarding the Mini 3 will be announced by AT&T closer to the launch of the device, which is expected during the first half of this year.
