AT&T Reveals Monthly Billing for Tablets, First Month Free
As wireless carries wrestle with how to integrate tablets into their data consumption schemes, AT&T this week introduced new postpaid billing options for slates. Effective immediately, AT&T subscribers have the option of choosing between the new postpaid pricing or sticking with prepaid billing.
The charges are effectively the same either way, with both postpaid and prepaid running $14.99 for 250MB or $25 for 2GB. However, customers on the 2GB postpaid plan who go over their monthly data allotment will be charged $10 per 1GB, while those enlisting for the prepaid model will be charged $25 for an additional 2GB if they go over. Either way, both options are month-to-month.
"Tablets offer the convenience of mobile broadband virtually anywhere and our new billing options give customers the flexibility to choose how they prefer to be billed," said David Christopher, chief marketing officer, AT&T Mobility & Consumer Markets.
What AT&T's really doing, however, is preparing itself for the tablet gold rush. Everyone and their uncle is coming out with a tablet this year, including some second generation tablets, like the iPad 2 and Galaxy Tab 10.1.
