Barnes and Noble Issues Nook Tablet 7 Power Adapter Recall Over Shock Hazard
Believe it or not, Barnes and Noble is still selling Nook devices (remember those?). The Nook Tablet 7 is one of its newer models and if you happen to own one, stop using the included power adapter immediately. Barnes and Noble has issued a recall due to the risk of shock. The company warns that the power adapter's casing can break when plugged into an electrical outlet, thereby exposing its metal prongs and posing a risk of shock.
"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled power adapters and register online for a free replacement adapter along with a Barnes and Noble $5 gift card. Once registered, consumers will be able to print a pre-paid UPS label to return the recalled adapters to Barnes and Noble. Consumers will receive replacement adapters in the mail. Until a replacement adapter is received, consumers are advised to charge their NOOK Tablet 7 through their computer using a USB cable," Barnes and Noble says.
The recall applies to the black power adapter sold with the Nook Tablet 7. Potentially faulty adapters will have the model number TPA-95A050100UU printed on them along with a manufacture date 201610. You can also check your Nook Tablet 7 itself—those with the model number BNTV450 printed on the back are affected by this recall. Barnes and Noble says there are about 147,000 Nook Tablet 7 devices with faulty power adapters in the wild.

So far Barnes and Noble has received four reports of the power adapter breaking or pulling apart to expose the metal prongs, though no injuries have been reported.

The serial number can be found on the original box the Nook Tablet 7 came in, on the store receipt, on the back of the Nook Tablet 7, or by navigating to Nook Home > Settings > Software.
