If you like the idea of the Apple AirPods, but aren't too fond of their fit in your ear or suitability for staying put during strenuous workouts, Apple has another alternative that will be available soon. The company's Beats Powerbeats Pro wireless earbuds feature the same H1 chip as the second-generation AirPods, but have a sportier design and an ear loop to help keep them better planted while exercising.

Apple first announced the Powerbeats Pro back on April 3rd, and we're now learning that preorders for the wireless earphones will commence on May 3rd at 10am EST. The Powerbeats Pro will actually ship (and be available in Apple Stores) on May 10th.

The Powerbeats Pro, unlike the AirPods, are both sweat and water resistant, and include physical volume and track controls (mirrored on either earpiece). The Powerbeats Pro supports hands-free "Hey Siri" voice control and they earphones are spec'd to last up to 9 hours. A total of 24 hours of usage can be achieved with the included charging case.

The charging case also includes a Fast Fuel feature that will give you one and a half hours of runtime in just 5 minutes. If you can wait 15 minutes, you'll be blessed with a total of 4.5 hours of runtime. One other thing of note is that unlike the AirPods, the Powerbeats Pro include four different-sized eartips to help you get the perfect fit in your ear.

We should mention that this initial availability only pertains to the black model of the PowerBeats Pro. Navy, Moss, and Ivory color options will be available later this summer. Pricing for all colors in at $249.99. For comparison, the second-generation AirPods with standard case is priced at $159.99, while the AirPods with the nifty wireless charging case comes in at $199.99.
