BenQ Goes All-In-One PC With nScreen i91
One could argue that the past 12 to 18 months have been all about
netbooks, but all-in-one PCs sure are making a comeback here lately.
Following up on efforts from Lenovo, MSI, Dell, Averatec and countless
others is BenQ, who has just unveiled its stylish nScreen i91. As you'd
expect, this is the company's very first all-in-one PC, and clearly its
design team spent some long nights piecing things together.
BenQ seems to be marketing this as more of a household / lifestyle PC than a workhorse, leaving most of the hard specifications to the imagination and focusing instead on aesthetics and overall features. We are told that it boasts an 18.5-inch widescreen display, a 1.3 megapixel webcam for video calling and a hard volume knob on the bottom of the bezel. The company even asserts that it can double as a large digital photo frame should you choose to waste all that power on a simple slideshow, and the comical (but likely useful) "Senior Mode" includes a virtual magnifier function to make reading easier.
Thankfully, the company is looking out for those of us who care about what's inside, as the back panel was designed to be easily removed in order to allow for hard drive and RAM upgrades. BenQ mentioned that its nScreen i91 "saves energy by using 80 percent less power than a traditional desktop with its 30W power consumption," but oddly enough, doesn't even bother telling us what kind of CPU is powering it. Those living in China, Taiwan, and other Asian markets can expect this machine to be available at the end of the month, though worldwide availability remains up in the air.
