Bethesda Praises Fallout 4 Fans For Record-Breaking Launch, Beta Patch Coming Next Week
Developer and publisher Bethesda is over the moon happy with the initial response to Fallout 4, the newest and fifth major installment in its highly popular post-apocalyptic Fallout series. Fallout 4 exploded onto the market with 12 million copies shipped and $750 million in sales on its first day of availability and, as Bethesda notes in a gushing blog post, it can't thank fans enough for their response.
"Thank you! We can't say it enough -- thank you for the amazing support you've given us," Bethesda says. "We're incredibly blessed to have so many incredible fans. You've made Fallout 4 not just our largest game launch ever, but one of the industry's. It's beyond anything we hoped for."
The blog post continues with more praise for fans, as well as a tip for those feeling overwhelmed by the freedom Fallout 4's open world gameplay affords along with everything the game throws out at players: Take your time.
Bethesda also acknowledges that the freedom its games offer, including Fallout 4, can have unintentional consequences.
"Given the scale and complexity of the systems at work, especially when allowing you to build your own settlements, we're happy that Fallout 4 is our most robust and solid release ever, and we'd like to thank our amazing QA staff who worked as hard as anyone to break the game so we could fix it during development. But a hundred testers will never replicate the many millions playing the game now, and we're hard at work addressing the top issues," Bethesda added.
Bethesda says it's working on a patch that will initially release in beta form on Steam, followed by a full and polished version on PC sometime after, then on consoles. It's a process that Bethesda says has worked well for it in the past and one that allows it to push out a greater number of fixes faster than it otherwise would be able to.
