BFG Tech Pulls The Plug On GPU Business

If you're a hardcore gamer, and you spend any time whatsoever looking over the best and brightest graphics cards on the market, you've probably heard of BFG Technologies. In fact, we had an interview with the company's own Senior Director of Marketing last April, and we have reviewed a number of their GPUs over the years. They've always been competitive, well-built, and solid recommendations for anyone looking to upgrade their graphics power-plant.

But now, if you want a BFG GPU, you should probably get on out there and scoop up whatever is left on the shelves. In a shocking announcement made this week, BFG Technologies has pulled out of the GPU market that has largely made it famous. Few people know that BFG even makes other products, but apparently they'll be relying on those very products (and new ones, potentially) to drive their business forward in the future. Here's the exact statement provided by John Slevin, chairman of BFG Technologies:

"After eight years of providing innovative, high-quality graphics cards to the market, we regret to say that this category is no longer profitable for us, although we will continue to evaluate it going forward. We will continue to provide our award-winning power supplies and gaming systems, and are working on a few new products as well. I'd like to stress that we will continue to provide RMA support for our current graphics card warranty holders, as well as for all of our other products such as power supplies, PCs and notebooks."

We know competition is fierce in the GPU and computing industry at large, but this still comes out of left field for us. The world doesn't really need one less GPU maker out there, particularly one that produced well-respected cards. We'll be interested to see what the company turns to in order to build their revenue stream. It's wide open at this point.
