BlackBerry Meets Wi-Fi

While Steve Jobs did a good job of stealing its thunder several weeks ago with the launch of the iPhone, Waterloo-based Research In Motion is still on track and has recently been doing quite well. As Sun Tzu once said, someone on the defense is preparing for an attack, or something along those lines. Indeed, it appears that RIM is preparing to release its very first Wi-Fi-enabled smartphone, which they call the BlackBerry 8820. What the 8820 lacks in a name it makes up for in feats. The 8820 will be RIM’s slimmest phone to include a full QWERTY keyboard. It also comes with a trackball navigation system, built-in GPS, and employs a 320x240 display. Though we aren’t certain about its price, we know that it will be available in the U.S. some time later this summer.
