BlackBerry Passport Shows Softer Side With Next Generation Oslo Hardware
Remember that Oslo handset from BlackBerry that leaked to the web a couple of months ago? More pictures of the device have surfaced, and while the quality of the new snapshots isn't much better, the multiple angles do end up giving us a better look at what BlackBerry is working on. Short and to the point, the phone currently known as Oslo is basically an updated Passport.
Oslo gains a few curves and more rounded edges compared to the original Passport, and in that way it better resembles the customized version of the Passport that landed on AT&T. It also retains the large square-shaped display with QWERTY keyboard underneath, along with much of the same hardware, assuming the leaked specs are accurate.
If so, the Oslo will sport a 2.2GHz MSM8974 Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC, 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, 3GB of RAM, and a 3450 mAh battery. That's exactly what you'll find in the Passport, along with 32GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, 2-megapixel front camera, and 4.5-inch display with a 1440x1440 resolution.
So, what's different? Not much -- just a slightly different form factor consisting of a combination of a steel frame mixed with silver plastic. There's also a beveled backside. Overall, it's a better physical design than the non-AT&T Passport, but unless BlackBerry thinks the lack of rounded edges is what ultimately held the Passport back, it's hard to imagine Oslo being any kind of game changer.
