BlackBerry Storm 2 Slips Out, Could Hit Verizon Next Month
Whether or not Verizon Wireless wants it that way or not, RIM's BlackBerry Storm 2 is as good as official. The long-awaited successor the universally panned Storm is finally out, with the first carrier to come clean about it being Vodafone...way across the pond. Walt Mossberg (among other outlets) has also confirmed that the handset will soon be making its way to Verizon's airwaves, though a date and price remain elusive.
Well, sort of elusive. We're told that it'll probably touch down next month for around $200 (likely on contract), which makes sense. After all, RIM doesn't want this phone to launch in the States after the holiday season. We're told that the Storm 2 looks pretty much exactly like the original Storm; it's a bit thicker and shorter than the iPhone, with a slightly smaller SurePress display. The Storm 2 relies on sensors beneath the screen's display for the tactile click, whereas the original used a microswitch.
It's said that this change makes typing a bit easier compared to the first phone, which required you to lift your finger completely off of the screen before mashing the next button. As for all of the other specifications? We'll be looking at a 3.25" display (360x480), Wi-Fi, 256MB of flash memory, a 3.5mm headphone jack, 2GB of storage, a 3.2MP camera, GPS, Bluetooth 2.1 and BlackBerry OS 5. So, is anyone brave enough to give the second one a chance after being turned off by the first?
