BlackBerry 9720 Smartphone Mixes Newfangled Features with an Old School Design
As BlackBerry enters a new age in the smartphone era, one that's decidedly dominated by Android and iOS (and/or Samsung and Apple, if you will), the Canadian firm decided a blast to the past was in order. Hence the launch of the company's new "super social" BlackBerry 9720 smartphone featuring an old school design reminiscent of earlier BlackBerry devices.
"The BlackBerry 9720 smartphone gives you all the essentials of the BlackBerry smartphone experience to support a communications centric lifestyle. It has the best keyboard and functionality for BBM, as well as an updated BlackBerry 7 OS that adds many enhancements. It’s perfect for customers upgrading from a feature phone or entry-level Android or Windows Phone device, as well as existing BlackBerry smartphone customers, that want a richer experience and jump up in style and performance," said Carlo Chiarello, Executive Vice President for Products at BlackBerry.
BlackBerry's new 9720 smartphone is available in a variety of color options.
A 2.8-inch touchscreen sits on the top section of the 9720 and below that is the familiar BlackBerry QWERTY keyboard and trackpad. Underneath the hood is an 806MHz Tavor MG1 processor, 512MB of RAM, 512MB of eMMC storage flanked by a microSD card slot, and BlackBerry 7 OS version 7.1 running the show.
The updated OS features an updated interface that lets you swipe to unlock the phone or access the camera from the lock screen, as well as a few additional enhancements.
BlackBerry's new device will be available in the "coming weeks." No word yet on price.
