Blackmagic eGPU Pro Packing Radeon RX Vega 56 For Apple Macs Delayed
Apple has had a busy 2018 having recently debuted the refreshed MacBook Air and Mac mini desktop computer in late October as well as new MacBook Pros over the summer. Along with any new Apple laptop or desktop computer launch always comes new accessories for fans to enjoy. One such accessory is the Blackmagic eGPU Pro that features the Radeon RX Vega 56 GPU inside.
This device is meant to give much more graphics processing power to any Mac with a Thunderbolt 3 port. While the manufacturer of the Blackmagic eGPU Pro has made no comment on delaying the device, Apple's webpage for the device has been updated and reflects a delay in shipping until December. No additional details on why the device is delayed have been offered, and no specific launch date in December is called out.
Before the web page for the product was updated, the launch was listed as November. If you are unfamiliar with the Blackmagic eGPU Pro, this device is an external GPU that uses a Radeon RX Vega 56 GPU paired with 8GB of HBM2 memory. It will work with any Thunderbolt 3-equipped Mac and has two Thunderbolt 3 ports for additional accessories. It also has four USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI 2.0 port, DisplayPort 1.4 port, and 85W power delivery. It's not exactly small at 6.96-inches long, 6.96-inches wide, and 11.59-inches high with a weight of 9.92 pounds. The MSRP for the Blackmagic eGPU Pro is $1,199.
