Blizzard Plans Overwatch Halloween Event With Sweet New Sombra Hero Treats, Difficulty Tricks, Loot Boxes
Trick or treat! Blizzard is looking to celebrate Halloween by offering Overwatch players a few sweet treats. The Halloween events includes new Sombra hero treats, difficulty tricks, and loot boxes.
Reddit user ChornosHero posted a picture he took of the Xbox Store, which included an image of a ghoulish pumpkin filled with Overwatch-themed treats. The advertisements exclaims, “Celebrate Halloween with some frightening treats for your heros during a new event: Overwatch Halloween Terror!”
There will be multiple Halloween-themed loot boxes. Each box will include four cosmetic items including Halloween skins, spray, highlight intro, emote, victory pose, player icon, voice line, or credits. If the Halloween loot box contains items that the player already has, they will receive coins instead.
An unreleased official Overwatch comic strip revealed a few of the skins players can expect to be available. These included the character Mercy as a witch, Torbjorn as a Viking, Reaper as the Headless Horseman, Soldier: 76 as a Daredevil outfit, Reinhardt as an Admiral, McCree as a Monster Hunter like Van Helsing, Junkrat as Dr. Frankenstein, and Roadhog as Dr. Frankenstein’s monster.
There is one particularly tantalizing hint in this advertisement. A purple candy with a skull logo looks like Sombra, the next rumored hero. Sombra is supposedly "one of the world's best and most notorious hackers" who as a child "lost everything during the Omnic Crisis". She also purportedly worked with a gang called Los Muertos.
She is also supposedly to be accompanied by a new fight in which heroes will need to defend the “castle doors from the Zomnics and Dr. Junkenstein's evil allies.” There will be three total levels and players will win more points by playing on the hardest level. Both Sombra and this new battle might make an appearance in the Halloween loot boxes.
It is unclear when the Halloween update will be launched, however, many speculating it will be released Tuesday, October 11th. What is is certain is that the Halloween loot boxes will be available to purchase or earn in-game until Tuesday, November 1st, 2016 at 4pm PST.
