Borderlands 3 An Epic Megahit With PC Master Race Gamers

The launch of Borderlands 3 has gone well for Gearbox and player engagement is the highest that the franchise has ever seen. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has said on Twitter that on launch day Borderlands 3 had concurrent players that were about two times higher than Borderlands 2 ever saw. Concurrent peak players for the game via the Epic Game Store is estimated to be around 248,000 players.

Steamcharts says that Borderlands 2 peaked at 123,496 players at its launch with a similar tracking service called SteamDB saying 124,678 players were playing at its peak. Those figures are roughly half what estimates peg for Borderlands 3. Pitchford offered no insight into how the game was doing on consoles.

Pitchford did come back and add to his tweet a bit later that Borderlands 3 has the best numbers in Gearbox history. Despite the game's popularity, not all are happy with the title. Some PC gamers are saying that frame rates are low and were calling for a framerate fix on launch day.

Players wanting a bit of help getting started with Borderlands 3 can check out the Borderlands 3 weapons guide for hints. There are lots of weapons and upgrades for players to choose from, making decisions a bit overwhelming for some. Borderlands 3 is available on PC as an Epic Games Store exclusive. The game is exclusive there for six months, and some gamers who are interested in Borderlands 3 are likely holding out until the game launches on Steam to purchase.

The game also launched on the PS4 and Xbox One. Gearbox confirmed during July that the game wouldn't support cross-platform play at launch, but it could come later. Pitchford did say at the time that the studio was dedicated to making cross-play available as soon as practicable after launch.
