If you have a bit of nostalgia for games from years past, Steam is offering up some freebie action this weekend. Steam is making Borderlands: Game of the Year Enhanced free-to-play this weekend only.

Borderlands was originally released nearly ten years ago on October 20th 2009 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and October 26th 2009 for Windows PCs. The co-op shooter in its GOTY Enhanced Edition includes the following DLC as well to further your co-op gaming experience:

  • Borderlands: Claptrap's Robot Revolution
  • Borderlands: The Secret Armory of General Knoxx
  • Borderlands: Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot
  • Borderlands: The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned

Now is the perfect time to go back and revisit the original Borderlands without forking over one red cent -- well at least through Sunday night.

Gearbox has already announced the latest installment in the franchise, Borderlands 3, and it will continue the immersive, over-the-top co-op gaming experience that players love. What it won't have, however, is cross-play support at launch. Gearbox President Randy Pitchford made it clear earlier this week that his team didn't have time to put cross-play in the game for launch, but that he is committed to bringing the feature at a later date.

Borderlands 3 will be an Epic Games Store exclusive on the PC when it arrives on September 13th, and that exclusivity will last for around six months. Gamers aren’t exactly thrilled with this turn of events, but the battle between the Epic Games Store and Steam is only going to get more heated in the months and years to come.
