Canon IVY REC Crowdfunded Clip-On Camera Aims At GoPro And DJI

Canon is a big name in the photography world, making cameras that run the gamut from entry-level offerings up to high-end professional cameras. However, Canon has turned to crowdsourced funding site Indiegogo for its latest camera project that is aimed at bringing in new customers who also happen to be casual photographers. The camera Canon has on Indiegogo is called the IVY REC.

It's a little camera that has a clip on the side and is meant to be clipped to a strap on just about anything you want to keep it close at hand. It promises to be the "ultimate go anywhere camera" with a clippable design that is lightweight, compact, and rugged. It has no screen to crack; Canon says that the clip area can be used as a viewfinder.

To view the images captured with the camera requires your smartphone and the CanonMini Cam app allowing live preview directly on the phone. IVY REC has the ability to transfer and share photos and video wirelessly. The rugged design can survive shocks from drops or bumps, and the camera is waterproof, able to survive up to 30 minutes at a depth of 3.3 feet.

The features of the camera include a 13MP 1/3-inch CMOS sensor, Bluetooth, WiFi, and the ability to record video at 1080p resolution at up to 60 fps. Lacking a rear screen will make it hard to know what you are recording and holding your smartphone to use the live view app and recording with the other hand is a recipe for a dropped device. The campaign isn't live on Indiegogo right now, but those interested in the camera can register here to be notified. Earlybird backers will get 30% off.
