Capcom Celebrates 30 Years Of Street Fighter With 30th Anniversary Collection
It's hard to believe that the original Street Fighter came out 30 years ago, debuting in Japanese arcades in 1987. Now three decades later, the Street Fighter franchise is still relevant, having outlasted the arcade scene's heyday with a successful transitions to in-home game systems. To celebrate the remarkably long run, Capcom is introducing a 30th Anniversary Collection for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
In the time that has elapsed since Street Fighter came into existence, there have been over 60 characters, 80 titles, and 40 million units sold. The anthology that Capcom is releasing includes a dozen of the more iconic releases, starting with the original Street Fighter in 1987 and spanning up to Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. The entire collection is as follows:

- Street Fighter II: Champion Edition
- Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting
- Super Street Fighter II
- Super Street Fighter II: Turbo
- Street Fighter Alpha
- Street Fighter Alpha 2
- Street Fighter Alpha 3
- Street Fighter III
- Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact
- Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
Capcom is promising "arcade perfect gameplay" in each of the titles. In addition, three of the games feature an online mode—Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting, Super Street Fighter II: Turbo, and Street Fighter Alpha 3.
"In addition to Ranked and Casual Matches, up to four players can join a lobby where they can play against the CPU while waiting for their next match—a throwback to those days of waiting for a second player to challenge you in the arcades," Capcom explains. "Each of these titles will have their own global leaderboard to ensure bragging rights can be proved. Online play also features 'rewind' technology that provides low-latency matches with the ability to adjust your own input latency via the in-game menu."
Beyond the games themselves, the 30th Anniversary Collection comes with some nifty extras. Fans will be able to browse a collection of concept art, pitch documents, and little known facts behind each game's release. There will also be an interactive timeline where gamers can browse all 30 years of Street Fighter to see how it's evolved, plus character bios, a music player to listen to familiar sounds, and perhaps best of all, save states.
This is quite the collection for fans old and new. The only bummer is you have to wait a bit.—it will be available in May of next year for $40.
