'Castlevania’ Producer Ditches Konami, Secures $1 Million In Kickstarter Funding For ‘Bloodstained’
According to Igarashi, he's found partners willing to support his vision with funding, but only if he can prove there remains a demand for side-scrolling platformer titles. To do that, he's turned to Kickstarter
Igarashi describes Bloodstained as a "new action adventure game in the gothic horror style." It will include lots of exploration with RPG and crafting elements. Your role in the game is that of Miriam, an orphan scarred by an alchemist curse that's slowly crystalizing your skin. You'll face a barrage of demons as you battle your way through a castle summoned by Gebel, an old friend whose body is no more crystal than flesh.
At nearly $1.4 million in funding, several stretch goals have been unlocked. For example, the game will now include a Nightmare difficult mode, voice acting by David Hayter, a second playable character, cheat codes, local co-op, and more.
Having reached the funding goal, Bloodstained will release to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Steam (PC/Mac/Linux). If you want to back the project and/or sneak into a reward tier, go here.
