CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 Explored In This Epic 48-Minute Gameplay Walkthrough
CD Projekt Red, the Polish game developer responsible for the excellent The Witcher series, sure does like the idea of providing gamers with extended gameplay demos. This especially applies to Cyberpunk 2077, an upcoming open world, first-person role playing game (RPG) set nearly six decades in the future. The developer posted its gameplay reveal, a 48-minute walkthrough of the dystopian landscape gamers will find themselves in.
"Watch 48 minutes of official 2018 gameplay from Cyberpunk 2077 and get a glimpse into the world of perils and possibilities that is Night City—the most vibrant and dangerous metropolis of the future," CD Projekt Red said.
The walkthrough video is the same demonstration that journalists saw during E3 a couple of months ago. It was then that the media got its first glimpse of the character creation system featuring a pair of generic male and female avatars on a blue background, both completely nude. Now you can, too—the NSFW bits are blurred out, though heads up there is some nudity later on in the video, along with rough language (and of course violence).

As with before, CD Projekt Red stresses that what you see in the video is very much a work in progress. "Everything you see is potentially subject to change," the developer states. That said, what you see is pretty darn cool.
It starts off with the character creation system. Gamers can customize the look of their character and certain attributes, though there are not RPG class options. That's because the developer views classes as being fluid, with gamers being able to modify their class throughout the game.

In addition to showing off some of the gameplay elements, there is a 'secret' frame that reveals a bit of additional information by the developers. CD Projekt Red explains that it was hesitant to showcase its extended gameplay trailer to the public because even though it is "deep in development," it's not sure how much of what is shown will end up in the final release.
"This makes publishing videos like what you just saw risky—we don't want gamers saying 'But in that previous video that gun was shooting differently', or 'Why did you change the interface?' Change is inherent to game development and there's a ton of things being modified each day," CD Projekt Red explains. "Our fear was (and still is) that you'll think what you just saw is how Cyberpunk 2077 will look like."
To that, we would say to CD Projekt Red, "Relax!" The trailer is pretty engaging, from the various weapons to gameply-driven communication options. We're certainly excited for the final product, even if it differs in some (or many) places. Traversing the dystopian landscape of Night City, California, looks like it's going to be a fun trip.
