Change.Org Petitions Rockstar for GTA V Release on the PC

Is there a bigger tease in the world than Rockstar Games? Not if you're a PC gamer. Again and again, Rockstar Games gropes the console community right in front of PC players by slow rolling game updates, screenshots, trailers, and other tantalizing tidbits for their platform right up until the launch of whichever Grand Theft Auto title it's working on. This time it was Grand Theft Auto V, one of the biggest releases of 2013, and like previous versions, there's no PC version at the outset.

Even though previous games in the series have ended up on the PC, Rockstar has so far refused to acknowledge that a port is in the works. This has perhaps caused a bit of panic among PC gamers who would rather ride recklessly through Los Santos and beat up pedestrians with a mouse and keyboard than an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 gamepad.

In response, a petition on Change.org is circulating the web and demanding that Rockstar release GTA V on PC. So far it has over 436,000 signatures en route to 500,000. Here's the plea:

To: Rockstar Games

Please release GTA V on PC. GTA games have been a large part of so many people's lives and it's a big shame not seeing the newest iteration of the game being released on the most powerful platform. Things like modifications have always been a HUGE part of PC gaming and modded GTA is some of the most insanely fun times you can have.

I hope you consider the release of GTA V on PC as it'll make many people very happy!

Sincerely,
[Your name]

History tells us the petition won't do a lick of good, that a PC port is forthcoming, though not for several months. For example, it took Rockstar Games nearly seven months to release GTA IV to PC after it launched to consoles in April, 2008. Whatever time frame the developer has in mind -- assuming it has one -- it isn't likely to be affected by an Internet petition.

In addition, next generation consoles are right around the corner, and given how lucrative these gaming boxes have become, Rockstar Games will probably launch a version for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 before PC. It's a shame, but that's the way it is.
