Check Out This Wicked Metro Exodus Weapons Trailer In Ray Traced Heavy Hitter Glory
Metro Exodus is due to arrive in just over three weeks from now, and like Battlefield 5, it supports real-time ray tracing if you have the appropriate hardware—you'll need a GeForce RTX series graphics card. In the lead up to the launch, develop 4A Games and publisher Deep Silver posted a trailer that showcases some of the game's weaponry.
Just as with Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, the new Exodus chapter features customizable weapons. Through a "multiple of options available to suit your preferred style of play," Metro Exodus will allow gamers to add key upgrades to their weapons, like scopes for shooting from a distance and longer barrels to maximize damage and improve a weapon's accuracy.
The trailer is over four minutes long and covers a variety of weapons, which is interesting in and of itself. However, it also gives a glimpse of some of the ray tracing effects that have been sprinkled into the game. While not the focus of the trailer, the effects are obvious in some parts.
Real-time ray tracing is all about having prettier, more realistic visuals. That said, lighting and shadows in general will serve a bigger purpose beyond just eye candy in Metro Exodus.
"Combat isn't the only solution. Being creative, using the environment and thinking tactically using light, shadow, and the tools at your side can neutralize a potentially deadly confrontation," the trailer's narrator says.
Enabling real-time ray tracing isn't likely to yield gamers an advantage in this regard, but we're definitely curious to see how Metro Exodus takes advantage of lighting and shadows overall, from a tactical standpoint.
Metro Exodus Spartan Collector's Edition
Metro Exodus releases to PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on February 15. It is available to pre-order now starting at $59.99 for the standard edition. The most expensive version is the 'Spartan Collector's Edition with Aurora Edition' for $234.98, plus another $44.98 for postage and packaging.
