These Are The Classic NES Games Coming To Nintendo Switch Online Service

Nintendo Switch
Nintendo is launching a paid online service for its Switch console next week, as we get closer to the launch, more details have been made available. We now know exactly which retro games will be available when the online service goes live. Nintendo also shared details about upcoming classic games, and revealed a new accessory.

To start with, the Nintendo Switch Online service goes live on Tuesday, September 12, in the evening hours. Users will first have to install the upcoming 6.0.0 system update before using the service. The online membership costs $3.99 per month, or if you're willing to commit for a longer period of time, you can a discounted $7.99 rate for three months, or $19.99 for 12 months. There will also be a family plan that runs $34.99 for 12 months, which can be shared with up to seven other people (so eight in all).

The online service will be required to play certain games online, such as Splatoon 2, ARMS, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Tennis Aces, and Sushi Strike. It also introduces cloud saves for all games. And as an added perk, Nintendo is rolling out 20 classic games with online play. Here is the full list:
  • Soccer
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Ghosts'n Goblins
  • Excitebike
  • Tennis
  • Balloon Fight
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • Tecmo Bowl
  • Yoshi
  • Donkey Kong
  • Ice Climber
  • Double Dragon
  • Gradius
  • Ice Hokey
  • Mario Bros.
  • Dr. Mario
  • River City Ransom
  • Pro Wrestling
  • Baseball
That's quite the list with more than a few gems. This is no small perk, either, considering how wildly popular the NES Classic Edition console has been. Switch owners who sign up for an online membership will soon be able to get their retro fix, with an online component to boot.

These are just the launch titles, too. Nintendo plans to introduce more retro gaming goodness in the months to follow. In October, additional titles include Solomon's Key, NES Open Tournament Golf, and Super Dodge Ball. Then in November, Nintendo will roll out Metroid, Might Bomb Jack, and Twin Bee. In December, three more retro games will find their way to the Switch, including Wario's Woods, Ninja Garden, and Adventures of Lolo.

Good stuff, right? Well it gets even better.

NES Controllers

For that true classic gaming feel, Nintendo is introducing wireless NES controllers for the Switch. They come in sets of two, priced at $59.99. The controllers feature L and R buttons on the top, have rechargeable batteries, and can be slotted onto the sides of the Switch console just like the Joy-Con controllers to recharge them.

Interestingly, Nintendo is making these available exclusively to Nintendo Switch Online members. Pre-orders will begin on September 18, and will ship in mid-December.
