CMI And MasterImage 3D Showcase Glasses-Free 720p 3D Phone Display

The question of whether or not 3D has enough steam to really catch hold in the consumer realm remains unanswered, but one thing's for sure: a whole heck of a lot of 3D displays are cropping up in the mobile sector. MasterImage 3D and Chimei Innolux Corporation (CMI) have partnered to showcase a demonstration of glasses-free 3D on a 4.3” smartphone, a feat that's being hailed as the world's first AS3D 720p display.

It's said to be the first demo of its kind, using glasses-free 3D tech with MasterImage 3D's Cell-Matrix Parallax Barrier technology. Cell-Matrix Parallax Barrier Technology is MasterImage 3D’s proprietary solution that is invented, patented and mass-produced as the leading technology in glasses-free 3D display. The technology provides brighter images, reduced moiré effects (or rippled appearance) and the ability to work in any orientation – portrait or landscape.

Is this the future of phones? Do we really need another dimension on our smartphones? Sprint's EVO 3D sure has sold well, and if that's any indication, we certainly appreciate pocketable 3D displays over 3D HDTVs.
