Comcast Gigabit Cable Internet Service Priced At $105/Month Expands To 39 States

Comcast has laid claim to the title of "nation's largest provider of gigabit broadband" with the announcement that nearly 58 million homes and business have access to its gigabit internet service. Comcast claims its rollout to be the fastest deployment of gigabit speeds to the most locations in the country; Xfinity Gigabit Internet and Comcast Business Gigabit service are available to "nearly all" customers in 39 states and the District of Columbia.

Comcast offers faster speeds with multi-gigabit available to business users in Comcast service areas. Comcast notes it has increased speeds 17 times in the last 17 years and that the capacity of its broadband network has doubled every 18-24 months. The company uses Xfinity xFi to give customers control over their internet; xFi is a digital dashboard that allows users to personalize, monitor, and manage WiFi connected devices inside the home or business.

For users who have a difficult time getting wireless signals to all areas of their homes, Comcast offers xFi Pods, which are WiFi range extenders that plug into any electrical outlet and pair with the xFi Wireless Gateway. XFi Pods create a mesh network extending coverage for the wireless network. One of the key benefits for Comcast customers when it comes to subscribing to Xfinity Internet of any speed is the large number of WiFi hotspots in most service areas.

Customers can set their devices -- including phones, tablets, and PCs -- to automatically connect to the hotspots saving on their mobile data or getting a PC online without having to pay for wireless service. Another big feature for Xfinity gigabit service is that it uses the wiring already in most customer homes. There is no construction required to install new lines to a home, as fiber optic installations often require, and no need to dig up lawns; Comcast says in most situations a technician visit isn’t needed and the self-install kit will get customers up and running at gigabit speeds. It's not clear if Comcast gigabit subscribers can use their modems or if they must rent modems from Comcast that support gigabit service.
