Comcast Opens Xfinity Mobile BYOD Goodness To These Unlocked Android Smartphones
Comcast is reporting that the following unlocked smartphones can now be brought to Xfinity Mobile, and they’re all from Samsung:
- Galaxy S8
- Galaxy S8+
- Galaxy Note 8
- Galaxy S9
- Galaxy S9+
- Galaxy Note 9
Interestingly, official network support has not been announced for the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+; all of which were announced earlier this year. However, Comcast says that it will “activate additional Android-based devices” later this year, so hopefully the Galaxy S10 family and perhaps other popular Android devices like the Google Pixel family will soon be supported.
“By expanding our BYOD capabilities to Android-based smartphones, we’re enabling more Xfinity Internet customers to take advantage of the flexibility and savings Xfinity Mobile offers while keeping the phone they already know and love,” said Billy Stephens, who serves as SVP of Wireless Devices for Xfinity Mobile. “Consumers are holding onto their phones longer, and we’re looking forward to continuing to expand the lineup of Android devices customers can bring to our network in the near future.”
To help sweeten the appeal of Xfinity Mobile for Samsung users that hop on the BYOD bandwagon, Comcast will give new customers a $100 prepaid card if they activate an Android device and port a number over. This offer is good from July 16th through August 4th.
Xfinity Mobile is a wireless service that offers customers the option to pay $12/GB for shared data (including unlimited calling and texting) or $45/line for unlimited data (speeds are reduced after 20GB). Comcast promises no access fees for up to five phone lines and you’ll have access to over 18 million Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots to help cut down on 4G LTE data use while out and about.
