Corsair Launches Accelerator Series Solid State Cache Drives to Boost System Performance

Corsair has an interesting proposition for power users on a budget or anyone looking to squeeze more performance out of their system with little to no hassle and a modest investment. It goes like this: trade a little bit of cash for a little bit of cache and everybody wins. More specifically, Corsair is pimping its new Accelerator Series Solid State Cache Drives as a quick, easy, and affordable way to increase performance.

"The newly available Accelerator Series SSD cache drives are some of the most cost-effective solutions for boosting PC performance without the complexity of drive swaps and reconfiguration," said Thi La, Vice President of Memory Products at Corsair. "They are ideal for PC users and enthusiasts who want to improve their computer's speed without the hassle and expense of a full system upgrade."

Corsair's Accelerator Series ship in 30GB ($80), 45GB ($105), and 60GB ($125) capacities. These aren't intended to serve as main or even secondary storage devices like traditional SSDs. The idea is you plug them into an open SATA port and after installing the included Dataplex caching software from NVELO, you can expect improved boots times and faster file access. There's no drive mapping or OS reinstall required. It's simply a big cache buffer that works in tandem with your existing hard drive to offload frequently accessed data. And it's all automatic, just go about your business as you normally would and you should notice both immediate and gradual performance boosts.

All three capacities are equipped with a SATA 3Gbps interface. The 30GB model offers up to 270MB/s sequential read and up to 240MB/s sequential write speeds, while both the 45GB and 60GB models boost those numbers to 280MB/ and 260MB/s, respectively.

The drives are backed by a 3-year warranty.
