2022 Chevy C8 Corvette Z06 Rumored To Be An 800 HP Twin-Turbo V8 Track Beast

Car folks were already excited about the mid-engine C8 Corvette that is still a few months from landing in showrooms around the country. The enthusiast thinking about grabbing up a base C8 when it launches might want to hold off because some rumors about the C8 Z06 are making the rounds and it sounds like a road missile. According to the rumor, the car will get a twin-turbo V8 engine that is based on the Cadillac CT6-V's engine.

In Corvette trim the engine would certainly wind up with some LT designation, likely the LT7 moniker. Rumors peg the twin-turbo V8 to produce a massive 800 horsepower and at least 700 pound-feet of torque. The current Corvette Z06 is making 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.

Any motorheads out there who think a sports car needs a manual transmission will like this next bit of the rumor. Speculation suggests that the Z06 might bring back the manual as an option. On the flappy paddle automatic front, the possibility of a 10-speed automatic has been floated. Since the car will be the track rat enthusiasts version of the C8, it's also expected to get a glut of other tidbits to make it lighter and perform better.

A more track-oriented tune for the magnetorheological dampers is a certainty, and carbon fiber body panels and exterior aero tidbits are expected. A big rear wing is anticipated for more downforce along with a diffuser, front splitter, and underbody aero. The fenders are expected to widen to fit wider wheels and tires underneath. There is no word on pricing or availability for the Z06 now, and Chevy has confirmed nothing about the car. We know that the base C8 Corvette will be priced at $59,995, expect a big jump for the Z06 to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars. The all-new C8 Corvette Stingray is an impressive car in base trim; we can't wait to see it in Z06 form.
