Cyberpunk 2077 Won’t Be Like Witcher 3 With Ability To Toggle Perspective Sometimes

There are few games that have been able to enjoy the level of hype that CD Projekt RED's Cyberpunk 2077 has generated. In some ways, it feels like the level of anticipation is higher for it than it was for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. That game helped introduce legions of new fans to CDPR, so this new collective (and massive) fanbase is looking forward to the next mega adventure.

By all appearances, Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be an incredible game for a huge number of reasons, but it's important to not think of it as being a cyberpunk Witcher. At the forefront, last week's E3 event revealed the fact that the game is a first-person shooter, not third-person like many expected (based on the third-person Witcher). That simple change means that the action will feel much more in-your-face.

Cyberpunk 2077 1

When the game was first outed as an FPS, many who loved the Witcher series to death had some concern - and for some good reason. People were not expecting an FPS, but to be clear, Cyberpunk 2077 is not a typical FPS. It's an action RPG, similar to Borderlands, but it's an RPG first and foremost. It's narrative-driven, and definitely plans to scratch that role-playing itch.

The first-person design is interesting both because it's not what most people expected, and because the game allows you to spend a lot of time on creating your character, which you'll apparently not see too often thanks to the first-person design. With that said, you're likely to see your character in cutscenes, so you won't want to be too lazy during your configuration.

Cyberpunk 2077 2

In the cyberpunk realm, there are many different classes any character could have, but CDPR is focusing on three: netrunner, techie, and solo. Your weapon choices will vary between power, tech, and smart, although very little information is available on the differences right now.

Neither of The Witcher titles were particularly easy, but it's specifically noted that Cyberpunk isn't going to be. It'll be a tougher game, which lends itself to the world nicely. You'll need to be smart about how you go about things, because ultimately, it's trying to be a realistic game within its theme. Heck - the game is even going to have nudity, and it's not being treated like it's a big deal (because really, it isn't).

Cyberpunk 2077 3

Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be a huge game, but because it will offer users different choices throughout the game, you may very well find yourself tempted to go through a second time in order to make sure you've soaked up as much of the lore and world as possible. While vehicles are going to be part of the game, they're not going to be a necessity like they are in other games. Like most cyberpunk environments, this game is going to often have you going down tight alleys and other areas vehicles can't easily reach, so while they'll be available, vehicles are not going to be quite as important as Roach the horse was in The Witcher 3.

At the moment, CD Projekt RED is being very elusive of any online component of Cyberpunk 2077, stating that it's a single-player game first and foremost. The company isn't ruling out online capabilities at some point, but it simply doesn't even want to think about them right now. It could happen, but just don't expect it to. That's probably a good thing, especially in a market where quality single-player titles are all too rare.
