Dell Debuts Premium Inspiron Chromebook 14 2-in-1 With 8th Gen Core CPU
Dell has announced a new premium Chromebook at IFA 2018 that is the very first Inspiron Chromebook to launch. The machine is called the Inspiron Chromebook 14 2-in-1 and crams an 8th gen Intel Core i3-8130U running at up to 3.4GHz with a 4MB cache under the hood. Dell also fits the machine with up to 128GB of eMMC onboard storage and 4GB of DDR4 2400MHz. Chromebook 14 buyers will get a 14.0-inch IPS FHD 1080p touchscreen with wide viewing angles, while graphics are handled by Intel UHD Graphics 620 with shared graphics memory.
The display can be folded back in tent mode, stand mode, tablet mode, or in normal laptop mode depending on what you need to do. Dell designed the premium Chromebook with aluminum in the chassis to give it a premium look and feel compared to the composites used in most Chromebook machines. Chrome OS is an efficient cloud-based operating system that will update automatically and can sync with other Chrome devices.
Like other Chrome OS machines, Dell's offering has integrated anti-virus protection and supports Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Photos and automatically stores that content in the cloud. The included stylus has a garage on the bottom of the machine and needs no battery thanks to the electromagnetic resistance design. The keyboard of the Chromebook 14 is backlit making for comfortable typing in low-light environments.
Dell fits the machine with a 4-cell, 56WHr internal battery that is good for about ten hours of use per charge allowing you to leave the charger at home. Connectivity includes a pair of USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C ports, USB 3.1 port, microSD card reader, and a headphone/mic port. Both WiFi and Bluetooth are integrated, and the machine weighs in at 3.99 pounds. The Chromebook 14 2-in-1 will launch October 23 and sell for $599.
