Dell Launches Inspiron 17 5000 Series Laptops With AMD Ryzen 5/3 Mobile Raven Ridge APUs

Dell just launched a new Inspiron 17 5000 series notebook computer that packs a new AMD Ryzen 5 Mobile or Ryzen 3 Mobile Raven Ridge APU under the hood, similar to what we showed you in HP's recent Envy x360 . The most basic configuration with these new APUs inside is the Inspiron 17 5000 with the Ryzen 3 2200U APU packing Radeon Vega3 Graphics. That machine runs Windows 10 Home 64-bit and has 8GB of DDR4 2400 MHz RAM and can be fitted with up to 32GB of RAM. However, the AMD Ryzen Mobile horsepower goes up from there...

Internal storage is a 1TB 5400 RPM SATA HDD and the machine has a 17.3-inch 1920 x 1080 anti-glare screen. Power is from a 42WHr battery that is integrated meaning no battery swapping on the go. Dell fits the notebook with WiFi, Bluetooth, and a tray load DVD drive. This notebook is a basic configuration selling for $679.99 and it lacks a backlit keyboard, which might be a big deal to some users. Buyers can opt to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro 64-bit for another $60.

Moving up a notch in the Inspiron 17 5000 line is a $729.99 machine that features all the same specs of the previous rig but increases RAM to 12GB out of the box. This appears to be the only difference for the extra money.

The next step up gets you a faster Ryzen 5 2500U APU with Radeon Vega8 Graphics. This machine packs 16GB of 2400MHz RAM and is upgradable to 32GB. Storage is a 2TB 5400 RPM HDD. It uses the same screen as the other models and has the same features save the upgraded APU and RAM. This version of the Inspiron 17 5000 sells for $899.99 and the keyboard on this model is backlit.

The top of the line configuration is on sale at $999.99 right now; normal price is $1038.99. It employs the same Ryzen 5 2500U APU and other hardware as the previous notebook. The only difference between the Ryzen 5 machine for $899.99 and the version for $999.99 is the warranty. The more expensive version gets you direct access to 24x7 hardware and software support align with a 1-year premium support and accidental damage service.

All the machines share the same connectivity options with a 3-in1 SD card reader, USB 2.0 port, optical drive, security cable slot, power port, HDMI out, Ethernet, dual USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports, and a universal audio jack. The notebook measures 0.98-inches high, 16.35-inches wide, and 10.99-inches deep and tip the scales at 6.55 pounds. These aren’t ultraportable machines by any stretch but they're not burly beasts either.
