Dell Intros Powerful Precision M4600 And M6600 Mobile Workstations

Tired of consumers having all of the fun? Take a stand, Mr. Corporate! Dell's tickling their business side this week with the introduction of the new Precision M4600 and M6600, described as the world's most powerful 15.6" and 17.3" workstations. The company's also using this chance to debut the R5500 rack-mount workstation, which delivers similar horsepower in a machine that can easily be stowed away in a network control room.

The two laptops come a decade after Dell launched their first-ever mobile workstation, and they'll ship with second-gen Core i7 processors and 1600MHz system memory options. These are also pretty darn slick given the horsepower and rigidity, with room for up to 32GB of memory and support for RAID 0/1 and HDD sizes as high as 750GB. The M6600 can also be ordered with a 128GB SSD mini card (with RAID 5 support), as well as NVIDIA's flagship Quadro 5010M mobile GPU with 4GB of graphics memory.

Each of the notebooks can withstand shocks, as they're equipped with an aluminum and magnesium alloy chassis that's tested to MIL-STD 810G for extreme temperatures, vibration, dust, altitude and shock. You'll even get the option for Optimus GPU switching, which will help these workstations last far longer than ones in the past, which generally needed an AC outlet soon after unplugging. The U.S. starting price for the Dell Precision M4600 is $1,678 and $2,158 for the M6600 and both will be available globally on May 10, while the R5500 rack-mount system will start at $2,551.
