Dell’s UP3218K 32-inch 8K Monitor Now On Sale With Eye-Popping Price Tag

Dell UltraSharp 32 Ultra HD 8K Monitor
The world’s first 8K monitor is now available for pre-order, and you’ll probably either do a double take and balk at the price of admission, think of all the stuff that you could sell to help finance the purchase, or gladly whip out your credit card to have it shipped to your home. After all, what else do you expect for a monitor that costs $4,999 before tax.

We were first introduced to the Dell UltraSharp 32 8K Monitor (UP3218K) back at CES this past January, and were instantly blown away by its size and display crazy resolution. While most of us are still coming to grips with 4K (3840x2160) monitors, the UP3218K boasts an 8K screen resolution, or 7680x4320. For a display that measures 32 inches diagonally, that means 280 pixels per inch.

As you might expect from its astronomical price tag, Dell is aiming the UP3218K at the high end of the professional market. As such, the monitor has a 400 nits brightness rating and a contrast ratio of 1300:1. In addition, it is spec’d out for 100 percent sRGB, 100 percent Adobe RGB, 98 percent DCI-P3 representation and can display 1.07 billion colors. Dell gladly points out that the last statistic is 64 times the color depth of standard monitors.

This UP3218K obviously won’t be targeting hardcore gamers with its 60Hz refresh rate, and we’d think that 8K gaming (on today’s most demanding titles) would likely bring even the most powerful gaming cards like the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti down to its knees. Connecting the UP3218K to your graphics card is accomplished using two DisplayPort 1.4 inputs to handle all the of the bandwidth required for an 8K image.

As for the design of the monitor, it features Dell’s “virtually borderless” InfinityEdge design and is capable of rotating from horizontal to vertical orientations. The height-adjustable stand can also be tilted and swiveled into just about any position that fits your needs. Vertical and horizontal viewing angles are both listed at 178 degrees, and you’ll find four onboard USB 3.0 ports for hooking your peripherals.

As we previously stated, the UP3218K is available for pre-order now, and will ship on April 18th. Each monitor comes backed by a standard 3-year warranty with Advanced Exchange Service and Dell’s Premium Panel Guarantee.
