The Division 2 Open Beta Goes Live Free To Play, Year 1 Roadmap Detailed
Did your weekend plans fall apart? Not to worry, if you are looking for something to occupy your time, the open beta for Tom Clancy's The Division 2 is now live on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It is also free and available to everyone—you do not need to pre-order the game to hop in and have a good time.
The open beta allows players to knock around three main missions, five side missions, and "discover the eastern part of the open world full of additional activities." As an added bonus, Ubisoft has made available a few open beta rewards. They include the following:
- Participants in any beta will receive the DC Patriot Weapon Skin
- Complete the invaded mission to receive the Capital Hill Arm Patch
- Complete the Dark Zone East Introduction Mission to receive the Supply Crate Backpack Trophy
- Participate in the open beta to receive the Capital Hill Backpack Trophy
Beta participants can play in Normal or Hard mode. The three main missions include Grand Washington Hill, Jefferson Trade Center, and Viewpoint Museum. That third one is a new addition to beta testing, whereas the first two were available in the private betas. In addition, Ubisoft is bumping the level cap to 8 for the open beta.
To go along with the open beta, Ubisoft released a Year One content trailer, shown above. This entails a bunch of free content to be released during the first year, as part of an "extensive plan" to continue supporting the game post launch.
"It all starts shortly after release with the introduction of Tidal Basin, a new challenging faction stronghold held by the Black Tusk. Next up is the launch of Operation Dark Hours, the first 8-player raid in the history of The Division. Team play and coordination will be the keys to success," Ubisoft explains.
Ubisoft is also planning to release three new episodes as the year unfolds. Episode 1 (DC Outskirts Expedition) will arrive in the summer, followed by Episode 2 (Pentagon: T he Last Castle) in autumn and Episode 3 (not yet detailed) in winter. These will include additional narrative and missions, new PvP and PvE modes, and three entirely new specializations. The third episode will set the stage for more to come.
The open beta runs through Tuesday, March 5 and ends at 1 am PT (4 am ET). If interested, you can pre-order The Division 2 now starting at $59.99. Anyone who pre-orders the PC version can also choose a free game out Watch Dogs 2, Ghost Recon Wildlands, or Far Cry Primal. It releases on March 15.
