Robert Downey Jr Brings Extended 'Age of Ultron' Iron Man vs Hulk Clip To MTV Party

The gloves are off now...or, rather, they are on, and then off, and then on again. Last night Robert Downey Jr. turned up at the MTV Movie Awards with an extended heretofore mostly unseen clip from Marvel Studios' cannot-get-here-fast enough Avengers: Age of Ultron. It’s a let 'er rip 90 seconds of the Iron Man versus Hulk battle that the film trailers, promos, and television commercials have only teased up until now.

Throughout the scene Downey Jr.'s Iron Man is bedecked in the "Hulkbuster" armor — arguably the very essence of <Hot>Hardware — that has had fans all a-tizzy since the first trailer for the film debuted back in October, and Mark Ruffalo's Hulk is...well, wearing the timeless and always-fashionable purple pants.

Right here is where I do readers the service of issuing a Spoiler Alert, albeit a mild one. Anyone planning to check out Avengers: Age of Ultron who wants to go in with no inkling whatsoever as to why bestest Avenger bro-buds Iron Man and Hulk end up slugging it out should disembark here.

Along with showing us all just how capable Iron Man's "Hulkbuster" armor is in performing its intended purpose, the clip Downey Jr. benevolently offered to the ever-hungry Internet last night via MTV answered a question that has bewitched us all, that being exactly what/who is responsible for setting the gamma-born Jade Giant on ol' Shellhead. The reference is a passing one and moviegoers who haven't spent far too much time in their lives happily reading super-hero comic books are unlikely to get it without some help, but it is there to assure us all the same that Hulk no want smash armored smarty friend.

Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in U.S. cinemas on May 1.
