Email Leak Notes NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1180 August Launch, GTX 1170 In September

It looks as though more Turing GPU rumors are starting to filter out into the wild, and the latest revolves around the release schedule for NVIDIA's next generation GPU family. As with all GeForce GTX 11 Series rumors that we've heard over the past few months, we'll have to take this latest report with a big spoon of salt given that NVIDIA itself has been tight-lipped about the products.

The new report revolves around an email that was allegedly shared between an NVIDIA board partner and a retailer that will be selling the GeForce GTX 11 Series to customers. According to the email, the tentative launch schedule goes as follows:

  • GeForce GTX 1180 on August 30th
  • GeForce GTX 1170/1180+ on September 30th
  • GeForce GTX 1160 on October 30th

NVIDIA has reportedly sent out invites for a big event to be held at this year's Gamescom, which starts on August 21st in Germany. That would align nicely with this rumored August 30th launch for the GeForce GTX 1180.

One thing of note is the mention of a GeForce GTX 1180+. The only thing that we can surmise at this point as that GeForce GTX 1180 Founders Edition cards will launch initially, while custom third-party boards will be released a month later. This coincides with previous reports that we’ve seen that say third-party cards will lag by a month from the initial launch.

In addition to supporting GDDR6 memory, the GeForce GTX 1180 and its lesser siblings are expected to bring support for real-time ray tracing along with HDMI 2.1. There's also talk that that an onboard hardware AI engine will bring support for real-time HairWorks modeling.

When it comes to performance, recent benchmarks have hit the web that allege the GeForce GTX 1170 will have performance that will surpass that of the current generation "Pascal" GeForce GTX 1080 Ti -- at least when it comes to 3DMark. The card featured in that leaked benchmark includes 16GB of GDDR6 memory and a supposed GPU clock of 2.5GHz.
