Epic Explains Why It Added Overpowered Mechs To Fortnite, But Will Gamers Be Satisfied?

If you've been following the Fortnite scene for the past few weeks, then you know what the hot topic of discussion is right now. We of course are talking about the B.R.U.T.E. mechs that were introduced in Season 10. These two-person war machines are outfitted with sturdy armor, shotguns, missile launchers and can dish out incredible damage by stomping on opponents. Needless to say, many veteran Fortnite players, and pro streamers in particular, are simply fed up with these overpowered menaces.

Developer Epic Games has been relatively silent about the B.R.U.T.E. mechs since launch, only making some minor tweaks for competitive play (like limiting the spawn rate). But now, the complaining has gotten so loud that Epic has posted a blog to discuss its philosophy behind developing the mechs and how it affects gameplay. The bottom line is that Epic put the mechs in to give inexperienced players a better shot at winning in Fortnite.

"The mission of Fortnite is to bring players of all skill levels together to have a fun experience where anyone can win," writes the Fortnite dev team. "Right now, we know there are players out there who have never had that opportunity.

"The B.R.U.T.E. was added at the start of Season X with this mission in mind. Since then, we have seen players who had previously struggled with getting eliminations acquiring more, while the number of eliminations earned by more experienced players remained steady."

In other words, according to Epic, the newbs are witnessing more success on the battlefield while veteran players aren't seeing a notable decrease in their eliminations. In other words, it's win-win in Epic’s eyes. To solidify its point, Epic posted the following graphic [seen above] to show the number of eliminations per round attributed to B.R.U.T.E. mechs.

In the end, Epic says that it is satisfied with the gameplay mechanics with the mechs, and from the tone of the blog, it doesn't appear that mechs are going anywhere anytime soon. This is probably not what players who are urging Epic to vault the mech wanted to hear, but it is what it is.

Either these players will have to acclimate to the changing landscape or move on to a different game if they are upset. As prominent streamer Ninja said earlier this week, "I guarantee, if all four of us stopped playing this game, and start playing like PUBG or Realm Royale, they still wouldn't remove the mechs."
