Epic Games Adding Fortnite Stink Bomb To Run Opponents Out Of Hiding Spots

If you lament the loss the unpopular smoke grenade in Fortnite, Epic Games is replacing it with an even more potent follow-up. Fortnite's update feed this morning revealed that a stink bomb is "coming soon" to the wildly popular battle royale game.

According to the description, the stink bomb "explodes into a cloud" upon detonation and will slowly damage opponents that are caught within its damage radius. What's unknown at this point is just how large the damage radius will be with the stink bomb, and how much damage it will inflict if you're within the contaminated area.

Regardless of the particulars for this new weapon, it could be beneficial for "smoking" gamers out of their manmade hiding place unless they want to die a slow death in a cloud of funk. It will add an interesting dynamic to the game, and it should be interesting to see if hardcore Fortnite players flock to the stink bomb in a way that they never did with the smoke bomb.

Most Fortnite updates take place on Tuesdays, so we’ll be keeping our eye on its arrival on the battlefield.

With that being said, the continual updates to Fortnite is one of the reasons why it has become so popular in a relatively short span of time. According to Epic Games, 125 million people are now actively playing the game across a wide variety of platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, macOS, iOS and [most recently] the Nintendo Switch. Players can compete cross-platform, with the exception of the PlayStation 4, which Sony forbids from cross-play with the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. It will also soon arrive for Android.

Fortnite players who think they have what it takes to compete against the best in the world will want to take part in Epic Games’ 2018-2019 tournament season which features a $100 million prize pool. "We’ll be supporting community organized events, online events, and major organized competitions all over the world, where anyone can participate, and anyone can win,” said Epic Games earlier this month. “Fortnite World Cup Qualifiers begin in Fall 2018, and culminate in the first Fortnite World Cup in late 2019.”
