Epic Games Store Mimics Valve With Steam-Style 'Mega Sale'
Yesterday, we brought you news that Valve's Steam Summer Sale is scheduled to kick off on June 25th according to leaked information. The upstart Epic Games Store is taking more than a few cues from Valve in how it operates its own storefront, and today has announced its first "epic" sales on digital games.
Epic is labeling the promotion the "Mega Sale" and it is offering games at up to 75 percent off their regular price. In addition, the Mega Sale ensures that every game priced $14.99 or above is being discount by $10. So, if a regularly priced title was previously available for $14.99, you'll pay just $4.99 today.
According to Epic, the $10 off promotion only applies to actual games, and not in-game purchases or season passes. In other words, you can't purchase $25 worth of V-bucks for Fortnite and expect to get a $10 discount.
If you purchased a game just prior to today's announcement of the Mega Sale, Epic still has you covered:
For all game purchases between May 2nd, 2019 and May 15th, 2019 we will refund you the difference in price between what you paid and what you would have paid during the Epic Mega Sale (inclusive of the $10 off from Epic). You will receive your refund automatically to the payment method you used in the next 7-12 days.
That sounds pretty admirable to us, as most retailers would simply tell you that you're SOL on previous game purchases. Epic's generosity also extends to game preorders. If you preordered a game that cost $14.99 or above prior to today -- and the game hasn't yet launched -- you will also receive a $10 refund.
You will of course have to sign up for an Epic account in order to have access to the Epic Games Store and the Mega Sale.
