eTailer Data Has AMD Ryzen 3000 Zen 2 CPUs Demolishing Intel In DIY Market Sales And Revenue
Here we are a few months later and AMD is continuing to eat Intel's lunch per Mindfactory sales data. AMD has steadily been increasing its market share, and even its revenue share compared to Intel, which is quite interesting to say the least. Being that these numbers are from July, this was the first month of availability for AMD's new Zen 2-based "Matisse" Ryzen 3000 processors. Needless to say, AMD started off the month with a bang.
AMD managed to take a whopping 79 percent of the CPU market compared to Intel's 21 percent, along with a 75 percent revenue share. Of the AMD processors sold during the month of July, 50 percent were Ryzen 3000 processors, with the next largest chunk being taken up by Ryzen 2000 at 32 percent. With respect to revenue share, Ryzen 3000 processors accumulated for 70 percent of the total compared to 21 percent for Ryzen 2000 processors.
On the Intel side of the equation, processors based on the Coffee Lake Refresh accounted for 70 percent of processors sold, with Coffee Lake lagging far behind at 27 percent. Not surprisingly, the Coffee Lake Refresh topped all Intel processors in revenue share at 77 percent.
Looking at the most popular processors sold by brand, the Ryzen 7 3700X was by far the best-selling SKU for July. Priced at $329, this octa-core processor offers an excellent balance of price and performance. The second-best selling chip was the Ryzen 5 2600 followed by the Ryzen 5 3600. Even the [current flagship] Ryzen 9 3900X put up a strong showing in its first month of availability.
On the Intel side of the equation, the Core i9-9900K, Core i7-9700K and Core i5-9600K all put up similar sales numbers.
We have to keep in mind that this is just one month of sales data, and as we saw late last month, Ryzen 9 3900X processors have been supply constrained. It will be interesting to see how the sales and revenue figures pan out for August and in September when the flagship 16-core/32-thread Ryzen 9 3950X lands on the market.
