Eye-Fi Introduces New Memory Cards, iPhone App

Eye-Fi, the company who launched the first wireless memory card for digital cameras announced two new SD cards that can upload videos directly from a camera. The new 4GB Eye-Fi Share Video and 4GB Eye-Fi Explore Video cards uses nearby hotspots to upload both photos and videos directly from the camera to one of more than 20 online photo sharing and social networking sites such as YouTube and Flickr. The Eye-Fi Explore Video card can also geotag photos and videos with location information.

Eye-Fi cards work with nearly any camera that can accept an SD card. The cards store photos and videos in the same way as a normal memory card. When you power on your camera and are within a configured Wi-Fi network, the card will wirelessly transmit your photos and videos to your computer and/or to your favorite sharing site. The Eye-Fi card only connects to Wi-Fi networks, computers, and sharing sites that you have configured so you control the privacy of your images. You can also set up notifications to let you know when your photos and videos have been uploaded.

The new 4GB Eye-Fi Share Video has an MSRP of $79 while the 4GB Eye-Fi Explore Video will sell for $99. These new cards will be available for purchase later this month. In addition to announcing these two new cards, Eye-Fi lowered the price on its current line-up of photo memory cards. The 2GB Eye-Fi Home now sells for $49 and the 2GB Eye-Fi Share sells for $59. Both of these first-generation cards upload photos only.

In other news, Eye-Fi announced a new iPhone application that lets Eye-Fi users share all of their photos from both an iPhone and a digital camera that are stored in a single folder on their computer with one of 25 online photo sharing websites. iPhone owners who already have an Eye-Fi card can download the free application from the App Store.
