Facebook Launches ‘Explore Feed’ To Show Customized Posts Based On Your Interests

Between your relative’s political rants and your friend’s Instagram reposts, it can be difficult to find new and engaging content on Facebook. The social media site recently launched its “Explore Feed” feature and the goal is to connect users with information and content they have yet to discover but that is curated with their interests in mind.

According to a Facebook spokesperson, “We are testing a complementary feed of popular articles, videos, and photos, customized for each person based on content that might be interesting to them. We’ve heard from people that they want an easy way to explore new content they haven’t connected with yet.”

The “Explore Feed” is accompanied by an icon with a rocket and is currently available under Facebook’s “More” menu. The “Explore Feed” will contain content based on pages the user already liked as well as videos and articles that are popular with the user’s friends. Overall, the “Explore Feed” seemed to offer information we were interested in when we scanned through a recent session with it. Although the feed did not contain politics or world news, it did offer local news and plenty of Game of Thrones articles.

In fact, there are a number of a new and interesting features under Facebook’s “More” menu. The social media service recently introduced “Find Wi-Fi” service. Users are able to pinpoint Wi-Fi hotspots near businesses that have shared their information on their Facebook pages. The company developed the feature because “it’s not only helpful for people who are traveling or on-the-go, but especially useful in areas where cellular data is scarce”.

Facebook also recently added animated GIFs to their built-in camera. Users need to simply go to their Facebook camera and select the GIF option on the top of their screen. They will then be able to customize their GIF with various effects and frames. The GIFs are a few seconds long and can be added to Facebook stories, posted on a person’s profile, or saved to their device.

The Explore Feed is currently only available in the mobile app, though it appears it will be slowly rolling out to various devices.
