Fallout 4 Gains Native 1440p Support On PS4 Pro And High Resolution Texture Pack For PC

Bethesda is preparing to deliver a high-resolution texture pack to PC for Fallout 4 next week, one that will require a somewhat burly PC to run. At the same time, Bethesda will push out its Fallout 4 Update 1.9 to PlayStation 4 Pro owners to make better use of the upgraded console's power. It will do that by introducing enhanced lighting and graphics features, including a native 1440p resolution.

PlayStation 4 Pro owners will also see improvements in Fallout 4 by way of enhanced draw distances for trees, grass, objects, and NPCs, and enhanced Godray effects. It's basically a fresh coat of paint with a higher resolution, both of which are made possible by the PS4 Pro's faster hardware (compared to the original PS4). To get the update, PS4 Pro owners will need to load up Fallout 4 next week and download as prompted.

For PC players, the high resolution texture pack will be delivered through Steam.

"Consider this free download a love letter to our amazing PC fans that have supported us—not just with Fallout 4, but across multiple decades and games," Bethesda stated in a blog post announcing the upgrades.

If you plan to download the texture pack, you'll have to make sure you have an additional 58GB of storage space available. Bethesda also recommends an Intel Core i7-5820K processor or better, at least 8GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card, and Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit).

The graphics card will be a deal killer for many players. According to Steam's hardware survey, less than 1 percent of its users own a GeForce GTX 1080. The most widely used GPU on Steam is a GeForce GTX 970. Nevertheless, Bethesda says if your system can handle it, Fallout 4 will look better than ever.

Finally, Bethesda says it will be bringing new features to Mod content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition to PS4 Pro, Xbox One, and PC. More details will be available next week.
