FedEx Is Giving Customers $5 Discount On Office Tools To Reinstall Dreaded Adobe Flash Plugin

Say it with me, “Let Flash Die”. As we’ve reported on numerous times on HotHardware, Adobe Flash is a plugin that has proven itself to not only be a resource hog, but a wretched security risk on nearly every computing platform that it invades. Even Adobe has seen the writing on the wall, as it is deprecating support for the much-hated plugin.

However, one particular company isn’t quite ready to let go of Flash just yet, and it is willing to reward customers that embrace the plugin with a $5 discount. FedEx gives its customers the ability to “Conveniently design, print & ship documents anytime, from presentations to flyers to posters” using its FedEx Office online creation tools. However, FedEx Office unfortunately requires the use of Flash.

Rather than switch to HTML5 like most other sites, FedEx doesn’t seem willing to ditch Flash just yet. So instead of simply losing customers who would rather bite off their arm than install Flash, the company is trying to appeal to their wallets with a discount. In this case, FedEx is offering customers a $5 off $30 coupon if they reinstall the plugin and go through with an order.

Customers are presented with the offer after they click the “Start Online Order” button from the FedEx Office website. From there, a landing page informs you that Flash is not installed, and gives instructions on how to enable it. FedEx then provides the following disclaimer:

As a thank you for your patience and for being a valued FedEx Office customer, please use “FLA726” at checkout to receive $5 off on orders over $30.

It’s a nice gesture by FedEx, but so many people have been burned by Flash in the past. Even most modern browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge have done their best to show Flash the door. In the grand scheme of things, re-enabling Flash momentarily to use FedEx Office probably isn’t that big a deal for many people, and if there’s a discount involved, that’s incentive enough for most people.

However, we’ll all be better off when Flash is completely eradicated from the face of the planet. The sooner, the better…
