Ferrari F8 Spider Is A 711 Horsepower Topless Road Rocket With Stunning Good Looks

Ferrari dropped jaws when it announced its F8 Tributo supercar back in late February. Now, that mid-engine beast has dropped its top, and it’s arguably even more attractive than its fixed roof sibling. The F8 Spider let you enjoy the open road even more thanks to its power retracting hardtop, which sits above the engine when stowed.

The Italian exotic car manufacturer has ramped up its use of lightweight material in the F8 Tributo, so it actually weighs 20 pounds less than its predecessor, the 488 Spider. Ferrari also says that aerodynamics on the new car are also 10 percent improved.

As you might expect, the F8 Spider uses the same twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter V8 engine found in the Tributo, which means that you get a stunning 710 horsepower and a stump-pulling 568 lb-ft of torque. To put that in perspective, the legendary Ferrari F40, which was one of the ultimate 80’s supercars, put out 477 horsepower and 426 lb-ft of torque from a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V8 engine.

When all is said and done, sending that power through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission to the rear wheels is enough to send the F8 Spider from a standstill to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds, while it will be max out with a top speed of 211 mph. Those figures mirror that of its fixed roof F8 Tributo counterpart.

Ferrari calls the F8 Spider an “evolution of the species’ in its press release, which is wholly accurate. After all, as we mentioned in our piece on the F8 Tributo, the car shares its same basic skeleton with the 458 Italia that launched in 2009. That car was then replaced with the 488 GTB in 2015. The F8 Tributo/Spider represent the absolute pinnacle of this decade-old chassis, so it stands to reason that their eventual successor will be built on an all-new platform, perhaps with hybrid power to even further improve performance and emissions compliance.

At this time, there is no pricing available for the F8 Spider, but expect it to be much more expensive than the $274,280 base price of the F8 Tributo.
