Finish Line In Sight As Microsoft Delivers Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10158

We’re less than a month away from the retail release of Windows 10 and the tech community is eagerly awaiting its arrival. Windows 10 promises to rid consumers of the bad taste that Windows 8 left in their mouths, introduces a number of new features that make the operating system a more welcome companion for a wide variety of devices, and best of all is available as a free upgrade for Windows 7 and Windows 8.x users.

As we enter the home stretch, Microsoft has rolled out Insider Preview Build 10158, which is adding a bit of polish to an already quite stable product. Microsoft Edge branding replaces what was previously known as “Project Spartan.” Edge also bring with it the option of adding a Home button for navigation, password and form-fill support, and support for importing bookmarks from competing browsers.

There have also been updates made to Cortana including a new dark theme, Office 365 integration, airline flight and package tracking support, and the ability to to send emails using just your voice. “For example – you would say something like “Email Gabe Aul Super Awesome Window Feedback…” and then what you want the message to say,” said Windows guru Gabe Aul. “You can even make corrections with your voice. Note – this feature requires an Internet connection and works for U.S. (English) right now.”

Other features that you’ll find in this build include an updated Photos app, a new Snipping Tool, and fixes that include improved support for the Surface 3 and Surface Pro 3.

Windows 10 is shaping up to be the best operating system release ever from Microsoft and you can’t beat the everyday low price of “free” — or rather, free for the first year of availability. While Windows 10 for desktops, notebooks, and convertibles will bow on July 29, those rocking existing Windows Phone devices will have to wait until later in the summer or early fall for the release of Windows 10 Mobile.
