Fortnite Game Streamer Tyler 'Ninja' Blevins Claims To Make $500K Per Month

At some point most gamers have probably heard someone (normally a parent) say that you can't make a living playing video games. That most certainly isn't true anymore. You can make an incredible amount of money playing games, but it's challenging work and there is intense competition in this sort of profession. Perhaps the biggest money-making streamer on the planet is a dude name Tyler "Ninja" Blevins, and his game of choice is the incredibly popular Fortnite.

Fortnite hasn't been without its controversies, most notably that it directly copied PUBG. Despite any ire between the two games, players have been flocking to Fortnite, including Ninja. Ninja is the guy who streamed with rapper Drake not long ago and destroyed the record for concurrent viewers for a Twitch stream to the tune of over 600,000.

Ninja gave an interview to CNBC where he talked about what sort of cash you can pull in as a video game streamer, which is over $500,000 per month in his case. Yes, per month. Blevins also talked about what he thinks sets him apart from the masses.

"I think that I offer a combination of high-tier game play that they really can't get with a lot of other content creators. It's very difficult to be one of the very best at a video game," Blevins said. "I'm very goofy; if you ever watched any of my streams or YouTube videos, I do impressions and stuff like that all the time and just crazy shenanigans. I think the combination of that [game skill and entertainment] is really fun to watch."

As for where the income is made, Blevins says that much of it comes from Amazon Prime subscribers. Those subscribers can donate to his Twitch channel, and Blevins also has 5 million subscribers on YouTube that help him rake in the cash.

Blevins talked a bit about why Fortnite is so popular, and that popularity is certainly key to his financial windfall. He added, "The fact that it is free to play is super huge, and it's already across all the [major] platforms. Just accessibility and how friendly the game is, they are just hitting every single mark perfectly."

Blevins also had some advice for gamers looking to follow in his footsteps. He says you shouldn’t quit your day job and you should stay in school. Getting an education and planning for a future is always good advice. Games rise and fall in popularity incredibly fast as gamers are always out for the next big thing. No one, not even Blevins, knows how long this cash cow might last.
