Fortnite World Cup: 15 Year Old British Winner Rakes $1M, Epic Payback For Lame Cheaters
Today we enter into the third and final day of the Fornite World Cup, capping off what has been a wild tournament with the Solo Finals at 1:00 pm ET (10:00 am PT). One of the more inspiring story lines is that of a relatively unknown (in the world of competitive gaming) British teenager who took second place in duos, netting him and his partner a cool $2.25 million.
The second place duo consisted of Dave "Rojo" Jong and 15-year-old Jaden "Wolfiez" Ashman (shown above, middle of top row). They beat out Emil Bergquist Pedersen and David W. to secure more than $1 million apiece in prize money. Jaden stands out both because of his age and his low profile status—before now, he was not a big name in the gaming community.
There is even more to the story, though. As any PC gamer will attest, a mouse and keyboard combo reigns supreme in certain genres, particularly in a competitive setting. As such, Epic doled out Logitech mice to most participants at the Fortnite World Cup. Jaden and Dave, however, rocked controllers.
In a couple of his videos, Jaden refers to himself as an "unstoppable controller player." What about the advantage of having aim assist? An Epic Games representative told Polygon that Jaden and Dave played with the "same settings that are available on the live game."

A teenage gamer with a controller netting himself more than $1 million in prize money was not the only notable thing to happen so far at the Fortnite World Cup. Some sweet justice was served up to Damion "XXiF" Cook and Ronald "Ronaldo" Mach, the duo that was previously found guilty of cheating during a World Cup and subsequently banned from competitive play for 14 days. They were also kicked off their esports team, Rise Nation.
The duo still qualified for the Fornite World Cup, but the only time they were greeted with cheers and applause from the crowd was when they died. Otherwise, the boo birds chirped whenever the duo appeared on screen. Have a watch...

The cheering (when they died) and booing happened on multiple occasions. It was not exactly a warm greeting, which is not surprising—nobody likes to see a team go from serving a suspension for cheating to competing in a lucrative tournament, though in fairness, the duo qualified without any funny business.
In other tournament news, former League of Legends professional player Airwaks and his duo partner RL Grime, known for his trap music, won the celebrity Pro-Am tournament that pits professional players against amateurs. The duo beat out some big names, including Ninja, to accumulate the most points.
