Fresh Leak Shows BlackBerry Sticking With Square Display For QWERTY ‘Oslo’ Smartphone
Don't sweat it if you've never heard of the Oslo until now. It's a forthcoming handset from BlackBerry that the Canadian company quietly announced at Mobile World Congress (MWC), and it hasn't made many headlines. Well, until now, that is. And the reason it's in the news now is because a supposed leaked image of the device is making the rounds.
By rounds, we mean literally. As in, rounded edges. One look at the leaked photo will conjure up memories of the rounded off Passport for AT&T's network. Like the Passport, it appears the Oslo will be a square-shaped device, but unlike the original, it won't have sharp corners.
AT&T apparently didn't like the design of the flat corners either, so it had BlackBerry redesign the Passport's chassis with rounded corners. And the Oslo is following suit, at least for the bottom portion -- the top two corners are still sharp like the original Passport. Or not -- there's a change this is a Photoshop. If not, minus 1,000 geek points to the source for leaking an upsized, pixelated version of the original photo. A hex on you, sir!
The folks at BlackBerryCentral feel pretty confident it's real. They also shared some purported specs, though with the disclaimer that they're subject to change. For now, however, the Oslo is planned to have a 1440x1440 resolution LCD display, 13-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front camera, 3,450mAh battery, and OS 10.3.2.
Intrigued? It's unofficially said to launch June 30, 2015.
