Fulton Innovation Bringing New Wireless Charging Technologies To CES 2013

Is wireless charging the future? Turns out, every CES for the past few years has become home to a host of wireless charging products, but the stuff really hasn't ever taken off in the mainstream world. Naturally, the company's showing up with wireless in mind are hoping to change the perspective at this year's CES. Fulton Innovation has just introduced a new demo tablet that will actually double as a wireless charging pad, among other things. The company's showing off a two-way wireless power example, and using Qi, it'll demo a tablet being charged wirelessly, which in turn is used to charge a Qi enabled mobile phone. By simply placing the two devices back-to-back, the power transfers wirelessly between them. There's a video below to help visualize what exactly they mean.

As if that wasn't enough, Fulton will show off an interactive printed poster with an illustration of a DJ console that can actually be played. Music is made by tapping the speakers, mixer, and turntable, while placing the same tablet that wirelessly charges a mobile phone near the poster for power. The combination of printed electronics and two-way wireless power creates a new way of connecting to consumers through interactive posters, magazines, food packaging, and more. Using its new Adaptive Resonance technology, Fulton will demonstrate a surface that wirelessly charges multiple Qi-compatible devices at once. Placing the phones or tablets on one pad will charge simultaneously, recognizing and adapting to the power needs of each devices.

We have to admit -- this sure feels like the most mature advancement yet in wireless power, but we're still missing one major thing. That would be the ability to have a TV charge with no wires while hanging on the wall, and a laptop charge with no wires regardless of where you move. Something tells us we're still a very long way from that happening.
