Samsung Delays Galaxy Home Bixby Speaker Launch Until Q3 2019

Late last month we saw Samsung's Galaxy Home Mini take a visit to the FCC and we wondered where the full-size Galaxy Home device, which was first announced last year, was hiding. Word has surfaced out of Korea that the Galaxy Home has been delayed again until Q3 2019. The device was initially expected to ship back in 2018.

Samsung Electronics' Consumer Electronics CEO Kim Hyun-suk said this week according to a report by The Korea Herald. The Galaxy Home is Samsung's entry into the booming smart speaker market and will be the hub for the company's smart home functions.

Galaxy Home will run Samsung's Bixby assistant and was initially unveiled at the Galaxy Note 9 Unpacked event in August 2018. Galaxy Home was also on display at CES 2019 in January. The launch of the device has been delayed several times, and the cause of the delays is unknown at this time.

The Galaxy Home Mini device that crossed the FCC is yet to be officially confirmed, but we would assume that it would be a less expensive offering to take on lower-end smart speaker entries from Amazon and Google. Samsung makes a wide range of products from smartphones and speakers to appliances like washers, dryers, and refrigerators. Samsung has a goal of connecting all of its products by 2020 and is working to do so by cramming Bixby into all of these devices.

Currently, Amazon owns the bulk of the smart speaker market, followed by Google.
